What is a CASA?

A CASA is someone like you who cares about children.  There are no special qualifications you need to be a CASA.  You just need to be willing and care about the children in Cowlitz County.  That will be enough to get you started.

What does a CASA do?

As a CASA Volunteer, you will:

  • Conduct your own investigation by talking to the child(ren) for whom you are advocating;
  • Review files at Child Protective Services (CPS);
  • Interview case workers;
  • Obtain health and mental welfare information from doctors and therapists;
  • Observe visits between child(ren) and parent(s);
  • Conduct home visits; and,
  • Obtain any other information that would be pertinent and useful.
  • Provide written reports to the court to communicate your recommended decisions that need to be made for your child(ren) to have their needs met.

Whoa! That Sounds Intimidating...

Remember!  You will not be alone.  The office staff is committed to supporting you in your advocacy for the best interest of the child(ren) to whom you are assigned.

In the history of the Cowlitz County CASA program, over 1,000 children have benefited from a CASA advocating on their behalf.  We are currently providing services to more than 200 children.  You can make a difference by volunteering!
